Just Start Where you Are

Updated: Feb 8

Don't be afraid to speak your truth, to follow that dream, to do that thing that changes the world.

Why is it so hard to follow through on an idea or project that's on your heart? Why does there seem to be so much resistance and hesitation to taking action? You think about a new business venture, finally starting that side hustle or following a dream or passion, but then come up with a million reasons not to even start. Maybe you feel that the timing isn't quite right. Maybe there's not enough time with family and work commitments. Maybe you're just waiting to build the perfect website, to take the perfect picture or to have the right credentials. You're waiting for the perfect time with just the right things to fall into place in just the right way before you can even think about starting to bring your dream into reality.

Fear is Often the Greatest Obstacle

Often, fear is the obstacle most faced in the pursuit of a dream. Whether it be the dream business, the dream house, the dream of health and healing. We can be filled with fear of failure, fear of rejection or fear of judgement. Fear and doubt are paralyzing. Starting a new business or putting something out and feeling vulnerable is enough to keep you from doing that thing that you dream of doing.

Imposter Syndrome

I want to bring up imposter syndrome, because I think that it's a really detriment to even starting any venture. Imposter syndrome is quite real. (Listen to a really great podcast about it from Sahara Rose here.) Especially if you're embarking on something that is saturated with other people and other ideas. You very much start to think, "who am I to say this, or share this? I'm not an expert in anything and this has all been said before." But here's the thing, every soul on this planet has their own gifts and talents that they bring to the world. I heard it said like this once, and I don't remember the exact words, but it went something like, "The creator of all of the mountains, the sky, the planets, the stars, the universe and everything in existence, thought that creation needed one of you too ." You bring a unique perspective that's all your own to anything that you do. No one else has your exact life experience and perspective. The world needs the gifts you have to offer.

Embrace the Fear

There's a right kind of fear. If you're afraid of how you're going to do it, of how you're going to accomplish it, but it excites you and moves your soul, then it's the right kind of fear. If you're afraid, but it feels in alignment with your purpose, then it's the right kind of fear. It's more a feeling of excitement, and of facing the unknown with anticipation. If it's the kind of fear that is completely overwhelming and anxiety inducing, but without the sense of excitement and joy, then perhaps you're not in alignment.

Nothing worth doing is every easy. Nor does it come without a little fear or anxiety. That's just not how life works. But when you are doing something that you truly love, and that moves you, then you push through the fear because it's what you were meant to do. For example, an athlete just doesn't become a great athlete. There's a lot of training, a lot of conditioning that go on behind the scenes that contribute the peak performance in a competition. But when you love what you do, you do the work, and you overcome the fear.

Just Start

Whatever the dream that you want to pursue, just start. Start now. You don't have to wait until you know more, you don't have to wait until you have the right credentials. You don't have to wait until you are at the perfect weight or that your body looks a certain way. Just start exactly where you are, with exactly what you have now. Waiting for something specific to happen before you get on with your dreams just leaves you waiting. What can you do right now that will get you closer to that dream? It can be as simple as reading a book about it, listening to a podcast, or researching your topic. There is always something you can do right now to get you closer to your dream.
