Solfeggio Frequencies and Sound Healing

Updated: Feb 8

Sound frequencies can have healing effects on various aspects of the physical body as well as the subconscious mind. They can slow down brainwaves to a deeply relaxing and restorative state.

What are Solfeggio Frequencies?

Solfeggio frequencies are specific tones that affect various aspects of the subconscious mind and physical body. These fundamental sounds have been used in western christianity as well as in eastern Indian religions (Gregorian chant, Indian Sanskrit chants). There is a lot of scientific study behind Solfeggio frequencies and their affect on the human brain. For example, 528 Hz (known as a healing frequency) music may have a stress reducing affect the endocrine system and the autonomic nervous system.

Six Solfeggio Frequencies

  • 396 Hz - Remove subconscious fears, worries and anxiety. Eliminate guilt and subconscious blocks. Feel uplifted, secure and empowered to attain goals and dreams.

  • 432 Hz - Promotes peace and well-being. A good frequency for yoga, gentle exercise, meditation and sleep. Incidentally, 440 Hz is the norm for tuning instruments.

  • 528 Hz - Heal and repair the body. Reduces stress in the endocrine system and autonomic nervous system. Increased cell life. Reduce the toxic effects of alcohol.

  • 639 Hz - Balance emotions and elevate mood. This is the frequency of communication, love, understanding and harmony in interpersonal relationships.

  • 741 Hz - Problem solving, cleansing of the body, self expression, intuition.

  • 852 Hz - Positive thinking. Ideal for combatting nervousness and anxiety. Intuition, inner strength and connecting with your highest self.

Schumann Resonance - Earth's Heartbeat

It seems appropriate that in learning about Solfeggio frequencies, we should get a little into the Schumann resonance.

In 1952, German scientist Winfried Otto Schumann documented the electromagnetic resonances between the earths surface and the ionosphere. At any given moment, there are about 2000 thunderstorms happening on earth. There are approximately 50 flashes of lightening per second. This creates electromagnetic waves that are captured between the earth's surface and a boundary about 60 miles up (the ionosphere). This creates a low frequency sound at 7.83 Hz. This is known as the Earth's heartbeat. This frequency is below the range of human hearing which starts at around 20 Hz.

Herbert Konig, Schumann's successor continued the study and matched various levels of brain activity with the earth's magnetic field by comparing EEG recordings. These resonances match delta, theta, alfa, beta and gamma brain waves. Konig found that 7.83 Hz is an alpha/theta brainwave frequency that induces a relaxed, dreamy state.

Solfeggio frequencies resonate in harmony with the Schumann resonance. There are also similarities between the Schumann resonance and human brain activity. This frequency may also contribute to cell regeneration and healing as well as inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

Sound Healing

Sound healing facilitates shifts in brainwave states through neural/brain wave entrainment. Entrainment or brainwave synchronization refers to the observation that brainwaves will naturally synchronize to the rhythm of periodic external stimuli - such as music, or even the rhythm of breath in meditation. Through entrainment, the brain utilizes rhythm and frequency to shift from the beta brainwave state (normal consciousness) to alpha (a relaxed state) to theta (meditative) to delta (sleep).

In our over-stimulated world of technology, sound and frequency can help to induce relaxation and calm an overactive mind. Singing bowls, Tibetan bowls, gongs, tuning forks and drums are instruments used in sound healing.

Benefits of Sound Healing:

  • Relaxation. Deep relaxation is a significant benefit of sound healing. Even 15 minutes of deep relaxation can have a therapeutic effect, reducing stress and increasing feelings of well being.

  • Clears Energetic Blocks. Sound healing can release energetic blocks within the body to help you feel balanced and replenished

  • Health Benefits. Sound healing can help improve sleep, reduce blood pressure, and reduce chronic pain. (remember, you should always seek the help of a medical professional as well for these conditions)
